Hey there! My name is Joyce, and I’m a 23 year-old bald woman. That’s my thing now, I suppose: I’m bald.
It all started with a bald spot in May 2017, while I was in the Galapagos Islands. My couple months traveling between Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Chile are ingrained with memories of my coming to terms of what I now know as alopecia universalis.
You know what’s neat? I’m also a lot more than bald.
On this site, you’ll find the stories of a girl who quit coach pitch when the coach pitched it in her face, who accidentally spun out a go-cart in a pond…rode a lawn mower off a cliff on Lake Ontario…rode her bicycle into the Erie Canal. You’ll find that that girl is growing up, but still finds herself scuba diving in the Galapagos Islands, bungee-jumping on the Nile River and swimming with sea lions in Peru.
Throughout the process of coming to terms with my alopecia, I’ve made it a point to recognize my privilege. Some days are hard, but overall, I have it easy.
The healing process is not as quick for some, although healing is an ongoing process for all, and that is why I am here. I want to show that living life as a bald woman gives you the opportunity to live a life just as grand as ever…while being a little more aerodynamic!
Cheers to living the lives we were meant to live and want to live.
